%X This paper describes the integration of data provided by automatic monitoring systems and satellite images for quick assessment of trophic state of reservoir water. Daily average of Chlorophyll (Chl) concentration from February, 2007 to February, 2008 was obtained with automatic monitoring systems moored at FUNIL reservoir. The data were processed to identify phytoplankton blooms which were defined by Chl concentration > 20mgl-1 and duration > 2 days. The dates of bloom were then used to select satellite images available during the episodes As revious results in cascade systems reservoirs indicated a good correlation between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and chlorophyll concentration, it as hypothesized that under eutrophic conditions the NDVI would be positive due to the high cell density near the surface. The selected image was processed to derive the NDVI for the reservoir and compared with chlorophyll concentration provided by the automatic system. The results showed that the NDVI is sensitive to changes in chlorophyll concentration in eutrophic systems as FUNIL reservoir and can be used for quick assessment of the area affected by nuisance blooms. Although preliminary, the results show the potential of integrating automatic collected in situ data and satellite images for assessment of aquatic system trophic state.
